So I was listening to my husband recommend that my mother read the book: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer and it got me thinking that we never actually read that book. We listened to it on a vacation and then we bought the paperback that's sitting on our bookshelf. The reader of this book did a good job telling the story. It sounds kind of grim and historical at the same time, even though it completely twisted the facts of Abe Lincoln's life as we know it as he moonlights as a vampire hunting vigilante.
One of my favorite audiobook series to listen to is the entire series of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. They are read by Ramon De Ocampo, an actor who is starred in a few movies that I have never seen. He reads these books so entertainingly that I am in hysterics driving down the road with kids. It's like listening to a few hours of comedy. I actually prefer the audiobooks over the actual book, but, as my kids point out, the books add a lot to the funniness of the books. If you can't see the comics, you're missing a piece of the humor, but it doesn't feel that way as a listener. I started this series out listening to them in the car with my kids. I would recommend reading these books along with the listening to the audiobook version to reach the pinnacle of maximum enjoyment for these books.. This is one of those series where I'm glad I've had kids, so I can pretend that I'm checking them out of the library for them.
And then there are the Harry Potter audiobooks, those are so captivating, don't even get me started on those....but, okay, I love the way Jim Dale reads Hermione's lines. "Oh, Harry," in a sickly sweet, falsetto female voice. My daughter and I love and do impressions of that all the time.
